Although a deal has not yet been reached, I’m confident that Stafford and the Lions will come to an agreement. Aaron Curry might be the cheaper, safer option, but he’s a linebacker. Detroit needs a quarterback. Now is not the time to be cheap. Get a deal gone.
2
St. Louis Rams
Eugene Monroe
Offensive Tackle
Virginia
It looks pretty certain that this pick will be a tackle. Will it be Eugene Monroe or Jason Smith? I’m leaning towards Monroe, Chris Long’s teammate at Virginia and last year’s #2 overall selection for the Rams.
3
Kansas City Chiefs
Tyson Jackson
Defensive End
LSU
Like many teams in the top 10, the Chiefs will likely be trying to move this pick. Unfortunately for them, it’s a buyer’s market. I’m not sure they’ll get the value that they are looking for. The Chiefs are supposedly in love with Tyson Jackson. This might be considered a reach, but remember the Patriots took Richard Seymour with the 6th pick in the 2001 Draft when he was projected to go much lower. Scott Pioli could make a similar pick with his new team here.
4
Seattle Seahawks
Mark Sanchez
Quarterback
USC
The Seahawks need to find a successor to Walter Jones, but now may not be the time to do it. The Seahawks don’t pick this high very often, so they should pick a quarterback to groom behind Matt Hasselbeck. Or, convince every other team out there that they want him and try to bait them into a trade.
5
Cleveland Browns
Aaron Curry
Inside Linebacker
Wake Forest
If Mark Sanchez and Tyson Jackson both go before the Browns pick, I assume the Browns would be very happy. Aaron Curry may be the best player in the Draft and would have an immediate impact on the Browns defense.
6
Cincinnati Bengals
Jason Smith
Offensive Tackle
Baylor
The Bengals will likely be targeting an offensive tackle with this selection. It could come down to Eugene Monroe, Jason Smith, and Andre Smith. With Monroe already off the board here, Jason Smith should be the selection. Andre Smith might project better to right tackle, while Jason Smith possesses all the skills necessary to play left tackle at the next level.
7
Oakland Raiders
Michael Crabtree
Wide Receiver
Texas Tech
The Raiders love their speed, but I don’t think they’ll take a guy like Jeremy Maclin or Darrius Heyward-Bey in front of Michael Crabtree just because they’re faster. Crabtree has his fair share of quirks, but that hasn’t scared the Raiders in the past.
8
Jacksonville Jags
Andre Smith
Offensive Tackle
Alabama
The Jaguars signed Tra Thomas this offseason, but I don’t think that will stop them from taking another tackle here. Andre Smith could start immediately for the team at right tackle and revamp their offensive line. I fully expect the Jaguars to try and trade this selection, however.
9
Green Bay Packers
Malcolm Jenkins
Cornerback
Ohio State
The Packers are a hard team to read on Draft day. They could target a guy like BJ Raji or Tyson Jackson if they are available, but Malcolm Jenkins is a possibility as well. He is a safe selection and would add some youth to their aging cornerback corps.
10
San Francisco 49ers
Brian Orakpo
Defensive End
Texas
The Manny Lawson experiment is nearing the end, so the 49ers will need to find another rush linebacker. Brian Orakpo is one of the most dynamic pass rushers in the Draft. They could target an offensive tackle, but they’ve poured so much money into the position already that I think they’ll look to spend elsewhere.
